working at the MTC

Although I didn't particularly enjoy my experience in the MTC while I was there, I knew that it would be the perfect place for me to work after my mission. After an extensive interview process I was hired and began teaching immediately. The MTC was an amazing place to work. I didn't dread going into work even one time while I was there. My missionaries were amazing. I loved it.

back to school...

Fall 2008 was a hard semester...I had decided to apply to the School of Accounting within the Marriott School of Management. It is the #2 undergraduate accounting school in the nation, and the prereqs for the program were tough. Needless to say, I did well this semester. Here are the classes I took:

Accounting 210: The School of Accounting uses the Accounting 200 class to make you think accounting is fun and interesting and not too complicated. Then when you enter Accounting 210 they eat your soul and spit you out. But I worked my tail off and got a great grade. After conquering Acc 210 I was confident I could do anything.

Economics 110: I hated this class. Hated the professor (he was pompous and arrogant and I honestly believe he didn't care about our learning...he has tenure as a professor, so he doesn't really have to care). He totally skewed my views on economics. Luckily I took some applied econ classes later in my college career, so I ended up seeing its value.

Spanish 321: What a fun and easy class! I took Spanish 321 so I could take a test that allowed me to get 16 credits worth of Spanish courses with "A" grades. The professor was from Spain and spoke with a theta, making the course even more fun.

Information Systems 201: ISys201 was an intro to ISys...the readings were pretty tough and the written tests were challenging, but the applied projects were great. I learned how to use Microsoft Excel in some really advanced ways, Microsoft Access to create some cool programs; and I also learned how to do some really cool HTML writing. It gave me some great skills that I have used since.

New Testament: Wonderful professor. Even though the class was at 8am, Dr. Bartholomew made me want to get up and go to class. Quite an impressive feat.

leaving for utah

In August I flew out to Utah and moved in with one of my favorite people on earth...Jayne Carlton. Jayne is an amazing woman who I call my Utah mother. She gives the best advice, supports me in my endeavors, and created a home for me when I was getting settled in Utah.

getting home

Leaving Paraguay was both bittersweet and exciting. it was sad to say goodbye to all of the amazing people I met in Paraguay, but it was also great to be able to be back with my family and friends and to start a new chapter of my life.

When I got home all of my family was there, and I got the pleasant surprise of having some of my relatives from Utah surprise me with a visit to hear my homecoming talk. it was quite a fun week.
